Home truths: renters' stories from the Australian housing crisis.

Issues With Heating and Cooling

We are freezing in winter, baking in summer, there’s significant mold in the bathroom and laundry, damp spots all through the house, several cracked windows, all doors stick during high humidity, the back door has no glass pane so you can see through to outside and we lose all heat and invite insects in, but we can’t afford to move. Even though our rent is still lower than most other houses in our area, we are barely affording to eat, and if they raise the rent just $30 we’ll have to forgo electricity and eat from food banks which we’re contemplating anyway.

These aren't just assets, they're our homes.

In rental properties across Australia, real people are experiencing life's biggest moments — birthdays, breakups, new jobs, lockdowns, first kisses, last goodbyes.

When politicians talk about housing, they can't cut renters out of the conversation. 1 in 3 of us rent: this is what the housing crisis looks like for us.
