Home truths: renters' stories from the Australian housing crisis.

The Time When Rent in…

Rent in QLD has risen 30% but the rise in wages for the same time has only been about 2.2%. We’re now paying a lot more on rent when accounting for our income. the only thing we could do is to try and find a cheaper place. When we looked for a rental property in 2022, we had around 150 other people applying for the same property. We have 2 kids and couldn’t not have a house to live in, so had little choice but to pay so much in rent that our quality of life suffered. If we were on even slightly lower incomes than we are it would be untenable.
