Home truths: renters' stories from the Australian housing crisis.

We tried to counter at…

We tried to counter at $750 even though that is still unaffordable. They said no and held at $800. We had NO CHOICE because there are no houses available in Perth. Landlord told agent they even wanted us to pay for the tree branch clean up from next door tree because we supposedly opposed neighbour trimming his own tree that fell in our yard. He is friends with the owners. Agent is very experienced and only recently took on this property from a previous agent. She said she has never dealt with anyone like this before. So ungrateful. Been stuck in this rental for 7-8 years and this is the treatment you get from an overseas owner.

These aren't just assets, they're our homes.

In rental properties across Australia, real people are experiencing life's biggest moments — birthdays, breakups, new jobs, lockdowns, first kisses, last goodbyes.

When politicians talk about housing, they can't cut renters out of the conversation. 1 in 3 of us rent: this is what the housing crisis looks like for us.
